The Aby kittens have arrived!

On March 26. Mary gave birth to 4 lovely kittens - 2 ruddy (tawny) males and 2 sorrel (red) males - we've already decided this is our "Bad Boys litter", now we just have to come up with names that suits them!
The proud and very handsome father is Tick-Tag's Mr. Bad Guy, who is owned by Helle Andersen, Tick-Tag Abyssinians.

A little information before buying your first (pedigree) kitten:

Never buy kittens from a breeder who offers you a kitten without a pedigree. The pedigree is the smallest post in the budget when you breed, so you can be assured that if the breeder offers you the kitten at a cheaper price without the pedigree, it is because he/she has cut down on some other expenses such as the annual visit at the vets or proper food etc.
Do yourself the favour of paying what the breeder asks - it is not a flea market - and you have better chances of getting a healthy and well adjusted kitten.

Take the time to visit several breeders, and choose a kitten from the breeder with the home environment that is most like your own - this makes the change for the kitten more easy.

As a general rule the price for a kitten (in Denmark) is between 500 - 1500 USD. You can get them both cheaper and more expensive depending on what breed it is, and if you want pet quality or show/breeding quality kitten. Camischa's kittens generally cost 800 USD (+ shipping, special vaccinations etc. depending on what country the buyer is in).

When potential kitten buyers hear these prices they think that all breeders make loads of money from selling kittens - NOT TRUE - we use a lot of money on the right food, litter, vet bills, stud fees, shows etc. etc. When all comes to all we have a surplus perhaps once every 10 years... We breed cats exclusively as a hobby - and an expensive one I might add.

Having said this, I have to add that there are always exceptions, so you might find that some breeders actually do breed for money - however I do believe that it is very few (not serious breeders) who do so.

This is what you pay for when bying a kitten from Camischa's cattery:

dot2.jpg (5037 bytes) All kittens come with a contract, which means that both buyer and seller have agreed upon certain terms prior to handing over the kitten. Typical terms might be that buyer has to neuter/spay the kitten before it reaches one year of age, that no breeding is allowed and that the buyer is not allowed to re-sell the kitten etc.

Kittens are raised underfoot - in our living rooms, bed room etc. and they are completely comfortable with guests and grown cats. Some breeders keep their kittens/cats in separate rooms, which sometimes causes the kittens to become a bit uneasy with visitors/strangers.

dot2.jpg (5037 bytes) The kittens have been checked by a vet, have had all necessary vaccinations and a written health certificate. Naturally they also have a pedigree, which incidentally says nothing about their health, only that it is a pure breed kitten.
dot2.jpg (5037 bytes) The lines we work with has been visible in the European show-arena for years (mainly Bjelke-lines in our Burmese breed programme). This gives some kind of certainty about the look of the kitten and it's temperament as an adult. The temperament is one of the characteristics we pay a great deal of attention to in our breeding programmes.
dot2.jpg (5037 bytes) We are trying, as far as we can, to avoid known defects in the Burmese. This means that you will not be able to find descendents from Contemporary (New Look) Burmese in our pedigrees.

Please do not get offended if the breeders ask you a lot of (personal) questions. It is very important to us to find the right buyers for our kittens - after all, it is not a daily routine to choose a new family member, which is exactly what you are doing when choosing a Burmese or an Abyssinian!
